There is nothing more beautiful than the sight of real wood flooring in a home; it brings a warmth and coziness that you can’t find with carpeting, tile or even marble. Not only is it pleasing to the eye, it also adds value to your house. It’s true. They add more value to the overall worth of your home than wall to wall carpeting or tiling. Fortunately, there is a wide selection of colors and textures, enough to fill thousands upon thousands of homes around the world if you really think about it.
Types
It comes in so many choices including, bamboo, beech, birch, cherry, hickory, maple, oak, red oak, walnut and white oak. That’s quite a variety to choose from! No wonder most people prefer the look when there are so many species available to choose from.
Options
Nowadays, a lot of your wood floors are prefabricated to mimic real wood floors, in fact sometimes you are hard pressed to see the difference between the two. We live in a more eco-aware time, concerned with saving anymore trees from destruction than necessary, so some manufacturers have even started making their flooring from bamboo, others going the way of laminates. There are others still that are turning to reclaimed real style, which is reclaimed from older homes and is a great way to recycle solid wood style flooring without sacrificing any trees - and can be a real expense cutter. Once refinished, a good grade of reclaimed wood style flooring will be indistinguishable from new wood style flooring, but some people choose to go for an antique look with reclaimed floors.
Alas, real wood flooring is more expensive than laminate flooring. The reason for this is that laminate flooring is just a likeness of wood glued to the side of composite fiberboard, therefore much cheaper to produce. Laminate wood flooring does not have the lasting power that real wood floors do. Real floors can add a significant amount of value to your home and can literally last a lifetime. While laminate flooring comes close to the look of wood, it can never stand up to the test of time and the rigors of use like real wood flooring can. The very best thing about real wood floors is that it makes designing the interior of your home a magnificent adventure because it sharpens the possibilities in your mind and sets your imagination loose.
