Generally speaking, after they become three to four months old, infants begin to turn in their sleep, from sleeping on their backs to sleeping on their sides. This is a perfectly normal and natural part of your baby’s development, but it is important to be sure that your baby girl bedding is designed to work with this new development. Although some children do not begin turning until considerably later, the three to four month old range is the most common for the development of turning and it can be disturbing to conscientious parents because the overwhelming amount of information for new parents relates that it can be dangerous for infants to sleep in any position besides on their back.

Generally speaking, pillows, comforters, or heavy quilts in should never be in the crib at all because they can be dangerous. Essentially the baby can turn into these parts of the bedding and get stuck there, unable to get out. Further, these parts of the nursery bedding set can obstruct the baby’s ability to breath, so once the child is stuck it can become a fatal situation. While having fitted sheets over the mattress are fine and perhaps light weight additional sheeting, anything heavier may prove to be more than the baby can handle if he or she turns into it in their sleep.

The first thing most parents think of when they buy nursery bedding for their new baby is how it looks and how soft it is, but as with most things, too much can be a bad thing and that applies to soft bedding as well. As far as style is concerned, parents can find nursery bedding to match any conceivable style easily enough, but remember to limit it solely to a fitted sheet that fits over the cribs mattress and perhaps one additional light blanket that goes over it.
