Fresh water aquariums can house both tropical fish and cold water fish depending on your choice with each group of fish possessing different requirements. Tropical fish consists of Tetras, Barbs, Danios, Rasboras, live bearers, Anabantoids and bottom dwelling fish such as Loaches and Corydoras.

Tetras consist of the popular Neon Tetra and Cardinal Tetra and certain unheard of fish such as the Phantom Tetra, Diamond Tetra, Congo Tetra and Bleeding Heart Tetra. Other Tetras include the Splashing Tetra, Rummy Nose Tetra and Lemon Tetra. Tetras are shoaling fish and should be kept in groups of five or more since they feel safer in large groups. Danios such as Zebra Danios and Pearl Danios are also shoaling fish and look best in shoals of five or more.hom

Barbs consist of the popular Tiger Barbs, Five Banded Barb, Cherry Barb, Checker Barb and Tinfoil Barb. Barbs are considered to be fin nippers and are not recommended to be kept with fish that have long flowing fins.

Anabantoids consist of Gouramis and Siamese Fighter Fish which are also known as Betta Splendens. Gouramis consist of the Pearl Gourami, Dwarf Gourami, Thick Lip Gourami, Kissing Gourami and Honey Gourami. Betta Splendens consist of the half moon variation, Delta Variation, Super Delta variation, Veil Tail variation, Plakat variation and the wild type. Betta Splendens cannot be housed together and the males will fight if kept together. Betta Splendens are best kept individually in 3 gallon aquariums with no tank mates since they are semi aggressive fish. Both Betta Splendens and Gouramis breathe air from the surface of the water and should not be kept in Lilly vases.

Halogen lighting isn’t exactly a topic that most people discuss. I never heard of it before until I was sitting a friend’s house and I couldn’t get over the light. It is a little hard to put into words, but the light seemed to fill the room appropriately and it just felt warmer. And that was the first time that I heard about the halogen light. There are people that are in love this type of light, but most stores don’t really carry it anymore. I thought I could spend a little time talking to you about how the halogen bulb works because it is different than regular bulb.

The way that a regular bulb works is that it you have electricity go through a little metal piece. There is resistance in this metal and eventually it gets hot. It actually gets red hot and you have light that is formed.

Halogen is different because what you’re going to have is a chemical reaction, rather than heating up a piece of metal. The chemical reaction creates light, but it also creates heat. Basically you have a tungsten metal piece in the bulb and electricity will run through that. The tungsten will burn white. The only way it can burn is if there is an inert gas around it. There is a secondary reaction because when the tungsten burns, it creates a gas that reacts with the halogen gas and you get more inert gas. And it is the inert gas that allows the tungsten to burn.

Our client was a large hotel on the East Coast looking to completely replace the existing lighting design system in one of their conference rooms. The conference room had recently been renovated creating a clean, open space that could be setup for a variety of functions. With the addition of tables, chairs, benches, or formal dining tables, the conference room could be used for a variety of occasions and special events in addition to seminars and business meetings. The problem was that as soon as renovations were complete, hotel management quickly realized that the conference room had now outgrown the capabilities of its primitive fluorescent lighting system, and that it would require a more advanced source of light in order to attract rentals for all the many events for which it could now be used.home

In order to accommodate the complexity of this project, we first asked the hotel to send us a list of the various room orientations that they envisioned. Dinner parties, seminars, group therapy sessions, and business presentation meetings were all included on the very extensive list we received from the client. This indicated to us immediately that we would need to install more than one source of conference room lighting in order to fulfil all of the client’s expectations. We would also need to create multiple switching points to create different layers of light in different portions of the conference room. Mood setting was not the primary goal here, but practical use instead. There were a number of shows coming to town that featured products and activities that tended to attract an older audience. The conference room lighting would need the brightest and most energy efficient lights to host events such as coin shows and other product showcases where detail and high visibility were of the utmost concern. There was also a need for superior colour rendering, so another layer of lighting from a halogen source would be necessary to make certain that people could clearly distinguish colours when looking through merchandise.
